Provides technical support related to materials and corrosion necessary to meet engineering needs. Ensures that projects meet specifications, standards and performance requirements within area of expertise.
ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS:
BS Degree in Corrosion or Materials Engineering. Eight to ten years relevant experience in specialized area or product line(s) or MS degree plus six to eight years experience.
Basic knowledge of competing and alternative technologies. MUST HAVE METALLURGICAL OR CORRISON ENGINEERING EXPERIENCE TO QUALIFY.
Expert knowledge of corrosion and materials manufacturing processes. Advanced knowledge of material properties and their application – Experience of materials selection for oilfield application preferred.
Understanding of corrosion modeling, testing and prediction to facilitate or validate materials selection.
Demonstrated innovative skills to research and create new products/processes using advanced laws, theorems and broad industry knowledge. Recognized as a technical leader among internal and external peers.
Broad understanding of division’s businesses and internal and external factors affecting business.
Good organization and project planning skills. Proven leadership ability. Demonstrates proficiency in mentoring, thinking creatively and project planning.
Demonstrated effective customer presentation skills.
TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:
Houston Operating Procedures, Safety Program, IMAN Systems.
Takes required training courses as outlined in the Engineering Training Assessment Plan.
RELATIONSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES:
No direct/indirect reports, but often leads one or more professionals or technicians on a project basis.
Consults with other local & Divisional sources as required.
Participates as a fully contributing member of a project team. Often leads projects or the solving of problems.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES / ACCOUNTABILITY:
No budget responsibility at this level.
Interprets and applies relevant policies & procedures.
Receives objectives and guidelines for projects. Regularly assigned ownership of conceptual design.
Analyzes and interprets data independently. Anticipates potential problems and takes preventative action. Participates in the project planning and schedule process.
Reviews the work of others for accuracy and soundness of judgement.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Office environment. Possible exposure to hazards such as noise, heavy equipment, temperature extremes, chemicals, etc. while working in Engineering laboratory, assembly areas and field service applications.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITY AREAS:
Determines materials compatibility with respect to temperature, pressure and oil field environments to determine suitability from a corrosion standpoint.
Identify, specify, set up, and follow corrosion testing experiments per relevant industry standards and internal/external customer requirements.
Independently develops solutions to non-recurring problems by analyzing, interpreting and evaluating various precedents and data. Anticipates potential problems and takes preventative actions.
Consults with other departments on equipment designs and questions. Identifies root cause of problems. Develops alternative solutions and communicates associated benefits and risks.
Participates in planning and scheduling projects.
Accepts ownership of conceptual designs and sponsors projects to higher management.
Provides corrosion or other material technology advice and support to Engineering.
Supports customer interface on material and corrosion problems and recommendations.
Prepares documentation, information and communications such as ECN (Engineering Change Notices), DBI (Data Base Information) and engineering specifications and ensures conformance to all policies and procedures related to engineering functions, labor reporting and systems reporting.
Assists Purchasing department in obtaining vendor material and process quality.
Assists the Quality Assurance department in performing internal and external audits and qualifying new suppliers.
Prepares test reports and closure reports on engineering project assignments.
Participates in product standardization projects.
Attends appropriate industry related professional society meetings and functions in order to stay informed of and make good use of new technology, products and personal development opportunities.
